Fortum Recycling & Waste, formerly known as Ekokem, used the Recright video interview platform to hire sales assistants who would fit the role and complement their existing sales team. The company received a lot of applications from people of different backgrounds and ultimately hired four exceptional individuals.
After carefully reviewing all the applications, Fortum shortlisted 29 to answer pre-recorded interview questions, prepared by HR Development Manager Marja Rekorius. Candidates had one-minute answer time per question to showcase their skills and personality.
As candidates began to send their video answers, Marja began to assess the candidate responses with hiring managers. “You get a different perspective on the candidates through video compared to just reading their applications. Since we were hiring for customer-facing roles, those candidates who communicated well and gave logical and consistent answers stood out from the rest,” Marja says.
On top of the three sales assistant positions they were looking to fill, the hiring managers also found great matches for other job openings! Through the video interviews, they discovered suitable individuals for the export assistant role too.
“Overall video interviews offer more benefits compared to phone interviews. Video interviews allow everyone involved to focus and be actively engaged during the process, and ultimately help us identify the most qualified candidates for the next round of interviews, saving valuable time for both the candidates and our team,” says Marja Rekorius.
“The employer should also challenge themselves and put genuine effort in their pre-recorded videos. This way candidates get to see the people behind our company. At the end of the day, it’s all about that human touch,” she continues.
